The Voice is turning back the clock—and raising the stakes. Season 29, officially titled The Voice: Battle of Champions, brings together three of the show’s most iconic coaches: Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and John Legend. From the first moments of the newly released trailer, it’s clear this won’t be a typical season. This is a showdown designed to answer one bold question: Who is the greatest Voice coach of all time?
Premiering February 23 on NBC, the all-new season introduces a high-energy format packed with twists, returning favorites, and serious bragging rights. With no room for filler, the competition is set to be faster, louder, and more competitive than ever.
A Red Chair Remix Like Never Before
The trailer wastes no time diving into the action. “It’s the Battle of Champions for a reason,” Legend tells the artists, setting the tone for a season built on legacy and rivalry. Gone is the usual playbook—this time, the coaches are rewriting the rules as they build teams worthy of the ultimate title.
That competitive fire is immediately evident in the familiar banter fans love. Levine proudly reminds everyone he was the first coach to ever win The Voice, only for Clarkson to fire back with a reminder that she holds the record for the most wins. The playful sparring continues throughout the trailer, with Clarkson joking, “I hate when dad and dad fight,” as Legend and Levine go head-to-head.
New Twists, Higher Stakes
Season 29 introduces several major format upgrades, including the Triple Turn Competition and a brand-new Super Steal. The Super Steal is awarded to the coach with the most three-chair turns during the Blind Auditions, giving them a powerful advantage during the Battles—one that can override another coach’s steal attempt entirely.
Host Carson Daly also teases an In-Season All-Star Competition during the Knockouts, bringing back beloved Voice alumni for head-to-head sing-offs. The coach who racks up the most wins earns an extra finalist, making every matchup count. Teased returning icons include Jordan Smith, Maelyn Jarmon, Javier Colon, Jake Hoot, Girl Named Tom, and Renzo—turning the season into a true clash of eras.
Familiar Faces, Fresh Energy
Adding to the nostalgia, red chair original CeeLo Green returns in a new role as a special judge for the All-Star sing-offs. His dramatic entrance—complete with a flowing red cape—had Clarkson joking that she planned to steal the look for her Vegas show.
Of course, the heart of The Voice remains its artists. The trailer showcases jaw-dropping performances that leave the coaches stunned. “That was explosive—something the show has never seen,” Levine says after one audition, while another moment has him joking, “You broke Kelly,” as Clarkson leaps out of her chair.
When to Watch
The Voice: Battle of Champions premieres with a two-hour episode on Monday, February 23, at 9/8c on NBC, with episodes streaming the next day on Peacock. New episodes will air weekly, following the artists from Blind Auditions all the way to the Finale.
With legendary coaches, bold new twists, and the return of fan-favorite voices, Season 29 isn’t just another chapter—it’s a celebration of The Voice legacy, turned into a full-scale battle.
