NBC is turning up the volume in a big way. The Voice Season 29 is officially set to premiere on February 23, and it’s arriving with sweeping changes that signal a bold new era for the long-running singing competition.
At the center of it all? The long-awaited reunion of Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Adam Levine, three of the most iconic Coaches in Voice history. Add a new airtime, extended episodes, and a revamped format, and Season 29—aptly titled The Voice: Battle of Champions—is shaping up to be one of the show’s most ambitious seasons yet.
A New Time Slot—and a Strategic Win
One of the biggest shake-ups this season is a new airtime. NBC has announced that The Voice will air as two-hour episodes every Monday night at 9 p.m. ET, beginning February 23. This strategic move gives the show a full hour without direct competition from longtime rival American Idol, which airs from 8–10 p.m. ET on ABC.
The expanded runtime means more performances, more Coach interaction, and higher stakes throughout the night. It also temporarily sidelines NBC’s drama Brilliant Minds, which had already been paused due to Winter Olympics coverage.
A Legendary Three-Coach Lineup
Season 29 marks the first-ever three-Coach-only lineup in the show’s history, featuring nothing but red chair royalty:
-
Adam Levine, an original Coach who led the show for its first 16 seasons and returned most recently in Season 27
-
Kelly Clarkson, one of the most successful Coaches the franchise has ever seen
-
John Legend, a consistent fan favorite known for his calm confidence and competitive edge
With no newcomer Coaches in the mix, the rivalry is sharper, more personal, and fueled by years of shared history. The newly released trailer teases playful jabs, competitive banter, and no shortage of bragging rights as the three champions battle to prove who truly reigns supreme.

Format Changes That Raise the Stakes
NBC is promising a “landmark” season packed with fast-paced, competitive elements, and the new twists are designed to keep both Artists and Coaches on edge.
Among the biggest changes:
-
Triple Turn Competition: Coaches compete to earn the most three-chair turns during the Blind Auditions
-
Super Steal: Awarded to the Coach with the most 3-chair turns, this one-time advantage allows them to override another Coach’s steal during the Battle Rounds
-
In-Season All-Star Competition: During the Knockouts, each Coach brings back two fan-favorite Artists from previous seasons to compete in sing-offs
The Coach who racks up the most All-Star wins earns a guaranteed second finalist in the finale—an advantage that could completely reshape the outcome of the season.
A Blast From the Past: CeeLo Green Returns
Adding even more nostalgia to the mix, original Coach CeeLo Green (Seasons 1–3 and 5) returns in a new role. He will judge the In-Season All-Star Competition, deciding which returning Artists move forward. His presence brings old-school Voice energy to a season that’s already heavy on legacy.
A New Voting Twist in the Live Shows
Season 29 will also introduce a brand-new voting block during the semi-finals and finale. For the first time ever, super-fans and former Voice Artists will join the in-studio audience and cast real-time votes alongside viewers at home, adding another unpredictable layer to the competition.
The semi-finals will feature the Top 9 performances, narrowing down to a Top 4 finale, setting the stage for a dramatic and fan-driven finish.
Looking Back—and Ahead
Last season, which featured Coaches Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan, Reba McEntire, and Michael Bublé, crowned Aiden Ross as the winner in December. Now, The Voice is looking forward by leaning into its past—bringing back its most legendary Coaches, reinventing its format, and reclaiming its spot as a must-watch television event.
