Lauren Alaina Breaks Down in Tears After Hannah Harper’s Emotional American Idol Audition

American Idol delivered one of its most moving moments of the season when Hannah Harper, a 25-year-old mother of three, stepped into the audition room and shared a song that came straight from the heart.

Hannah, who grew up singing gospel bluegrass alongside her family as they traveled across the country, decided it was finally time to chase her own dream. As a stay-at-home mom raising three young boys, she felt called to pursue music full-time—and her audition proved why the timing felt right.

She performed an original song titled “String Cheese,” a name that initially sounded light and playful. But within seconds, it became clear the song carried much deeper meaning. Hannah revealed she wrote it during a difficult period of postpartum depression following the birth of her third child, and the vulnerability in her performance was impossible to ignore.

The raw honesty moved everyone in the room, including judge Carrie Underwood, who was visibly emotional and told Hannah she “might be my favorite person that’s walked through those doors.” When it came time to decide, all three judges gave her a resounding “yes,” sending her straight to Hollywood.

The song’s impact didn’t stop there.
