As the competition on American Idol heats up, the show is reminding viewers how to vote after many fans expressed confusion about the new voting system introduced this season.
During the March 16 episode, the first group of Top 20 contestants took the stage to perform for America’s votes for the very first time. Up until now, judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood had the final say on who stayed and who went home. But now, the power has officially shifted to viewers.
Host Ryan Seacrest explained that fans have three different ways to support their favorite contestants this season.
Three Ways Fans Can Vote
-
Online: Visit the official American Idol voting page and submit your votes.
-
Text Voting: Send the contestant’s assigned number to 21523.
-
Social Media: Comment the first name of your favorite singer on the pinned voting post on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok.
One major change this year is that the American Idol mobile app is no longer used for voting. Instead, social media has become a new way for fans to participate in the results.

How Many Votes Are Allowed?
Fans can cast up to 10 votes per contestant per method, meaning viewers can potentially submit dozens of votes across all platforms to support their favorites.
Voting opens once contestants perform on the live broadcast and stays open until 6:00 a.m. ET the following morning.
