“The Voice” Season 28 Is About to Start Filming — And Season 29 May Already Be in the Works

Big voices, big names, and now—big news. While fans are gearing up for The Voice Season 28 to hit screens this fall, a surprising development behind the scenes has sparked major buzz: signs are pointing to Season 29 already being filmed… and it hasn’t even been announced yet.

Season 28: A Superstar Lineup Hits the Stage

Set to air from September through December 2025, The Voice Season 28 is getting ready to kick off with a coaching dream team:

  • Snoop Dogg

  • Reba McEntire

  • Michael Bublé

  • Niall Horan

The quartet was officially announced back in May, and by early June, NBC opened the gates for fans to attend tapings of the Blind Auditions, set to begin July 7. But here’s where it gets interesting…

Season 29: The Clue Everyone Missed

While NBC has stayed tight-lipped about future seasons, the show’s ticketing partner, 1iota, may have just spilled the beans. During the week of June 23, tickets were quietly released for a whole new round of Blind Audition tapings — but not for Season 28. These tapings are clearly labeled for Season 29 and scheduled for:

  • July 21 (10:45 a.m. & 4:00 p.m.)

  • July 22 (10:30 a.m. & 3:45 p.m.)

  • July 23 (10:30 a.m. & 3:45 p.m.)

Although there’s no official word on the new coach lineup, the ticket site confirmed:

“Music fans, rejoice: The Voice is returning for Season 29!”

Back-to-Back Filming: The New Normal?

According to coach John Legend, filming two seasons back-to-back is now standard. During a February appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Legend explained:

“The way we’re taping these days, we do two seasons per summer and early fall. So even when you’re away, you’re really not away.”

Season 28’s Blind Auditions will be filmed over four days (July 6–9), with two tapings per day, while Season 29 currently has three days on the books. This mirrors the filming approach of recent years and signals a more compact production model—great for coaches, but possibly exhausting for contestants.

The Long Road for Contestants

Season 27 runner-up Jaelen Johnston recently shed light on how grueling the audition process can be. Speaking at a Chamber of Commerce event in Derby, Kansas, the 22-year-old revealed that his journey began in September 2023 with an open call. From there, it was months of Zoom interviews—15 of them—before he was flown out for the July 2024 Blind Auditions.

Despite nailing his audition with three chair turns (from Kelsea Ballerini, Adam Levine, and Michael Bublé) and choosing Ballerini as his coach, Johnston had to stay silent for months. Season 27 didn’t premiere until February 2025, meaning he kept his success a secret for nearly a year.

Format Fatigue & Upcoming Changes

Season 28 arrives at a critical moment for The Voice. After a controversial Season 27 winner sparked fan backlash, some have called the show’s format “unwatchable.” Producers are reportedly planning major format changes this fall to freshen things up and keep the competition exciting.

What’s Next?

Between a star-studded coach lineup, back-to-back tapings, and a behind-the-scenes leak about Season 29, there’s no doubt The Voice is ramping up for a major year. While the mystery around next season’s coaches remains, one thing’s for sure:

The Voice is far from losing its voice — and fans should get ready for an encore.
