Giovanni Pernice is preparing for a high-profile reunion with his former Strictly Come Dancing co-stars, a year after stepping down from the BBC show following bullying allegations that rocked his career.
The Italian dancer, who spent nine years as a Strictly professional, will reunite with fan favourites Anton Du Beke, Aljaž Škorjanec, Janette Manrara, Gorka Márquez, Kai Widdrington, Lauren Oakley and Karen Hauer for a two-day Strictly-themed event titled Dancing with the Stars.
The event, which is not affiliated with the BBC, will take place next July at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport and the De Vere Beaumont Estate in Old Windsor. Despite the corporation’s typically strict rules around external projects, it is understood that current Strictly professionals have been given permission by show producers to take part.

Promising a “five-star experience” for fans, the event will feature live performances, dance workshops and candid conversations, offering audiences a rare chance to see the stars perform up close and hear about their journeys beyond the ballroom.
Giovanni’s involvement marks a notable moment in his gradual return to the spotlight following a difficult period. He previously faced accusations of bullying from former dance partner Amanda Abbington, prompting an internal BBC investigation. While six out of 17 complaints were upheld, none involved allegations of physical aggression.
The dancer has since spoken openly about the emotional toll the controversy took on his personal life. “Nobody wanted to be seen with me,” he previously admitted, revealing he felt isolated as friends distanced themselves during the height of the fallout.
“I felt like the world collapsed,” Giovanni said. “I didn’t have anybody around me. Before that, I felt like I was on top of my game — untouchable.”
Despite the setback, Giovanni says he remained hopeful throughout the ordeal, believing the situation would eventually pass. He has consistently maintained that while he is a demanding and competitive teacher, he is not a bully — a distinction he says is often misunderstood.
Now, with his reunion alongside former colleagues confirmed, Giovanni’s appearance at Dancing with the Stars signals a renewed chapter — one that reconnects him with the Strictly family and the fans who have continued to support him.
