Carrie Underwood didn’t hold back either, declaring Abayomi “a Disney star in the making.” And Lionel Richie left viewers stunned, saying one contestant delivered “the greatest performance I have ever seen on this stage.”
Memorable Performances
One of the night’s highlights came from Chris Tungseth, a construction tradesman from Minnesota, who put his own spin on OneRepublic’s Apologize. Underwood commented on Chris’s “mysterious, sexy vibe,” quickly clarifying, “Sorry if that was weird! I love my husband!” Bryan backed her up, agreeing the performance had undeniable charm. The moment even caught the attention of OneRepublic’s frontman Ryan Tedder, who FaceTimed Chris to compliment him on his warmup earlier in the day.
But it was Keyla Richardson who truly stole the show. Performing With a Little Help From My Friends in a striking black dress adorned with crosses, she delivered a performance that left both Palmer and Richie visibly moved. Palmer tearfully called Keyla’s voice “ancestral,” while Richie admitted, “I have never had any contestant walk out on this stage and tear the place up. The place got blown up.”
