Two unexpected eliminations and last-minute fan voting shake up a nostalgia-filled episode
The stage was set for a night of nostalgia, surprises, and high-stakes drama as American Idol celebrated its “Class of 2006: Reunion” — and by the end of it, the competition had narrowed to a powerful Top 3.
A Reunion That Brought the Heat
The Top 5 finalists took the stage alongside beloved alumni from Season 5, including Taylor Hicks, Kellie Pickler, Paris Bennett, Bucky Covington, and Elliott Yamin, in a night designed to honor Idol history while shaping its future.
Each remaining contestant was paired with an Idol veteran for duet performances of iconic songs, blending past and present in emotional, high-energy collaborations.
Standout Duets of the Night
- Keyla Richardson & Taylor Hicks delivered a fiery take on “Living for the City.”
- Jordan McCullough & Elliott Yamin brought heartfelt emotion with “A Song for You.”
- Braden Rumfelt & Paris Bennett stunned with a powerhouse “The Show Must Go On.”
- Hannah Harper & Kellie Pickler earned praise for their emotional “A Broken Wing.”
- Chris Tungseth & Bucky Covington lit up the stage with “The Thunder Rolls.”
Judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and guest judge Paula Abdul praised the performances, with several calling it one of the most entertaining nights of the season.
A Ballroom Twist
Adding extra flair, Dancing with the Stars professionals — including Witney Carson, Gleb Savchenko, Rylee Arnold, and Jan Ravnik — joined the performances, pushing contestants to balance vocals with choreography under live pressure.
The Big Results: Top 3 Revealed
After America’s live vote, Ryan Seacrest delivered the night’s biggest news:
Advancing to the finale:
- Hannah Harper
- Keyla Richardson
- Jordan McCullough
These three will compete for the Season 24 crown.
Eliminated at the Semifinals:
- Chris Tungseth
- Braden Rumfelt

Despite strong performances and emotional duets, both fell just short in the final vote.
Looking Ahead to the Finale
The Top 3 now head into the grand finale, where they’ll compete one last time for America’s vote and the Season 24 title.
The finale airs May 11 (8–11 p.m. ET) and will feature mentor Alicia Keys, who will guide the finalists and also perform.
A star-packed lineup of guest performers — including Jason Mraz, Tori Kelly, Nelly, Brad Paisley, En Vogue, Mötley Crüe, and more — will round out the three-hour live event.
